Acer has cut the price of its Aspire One netbook with base models retailing for $349. At that price, the One will run Windows XP home. The One weighs only 2.17 pounds and is designed to be an entry level PC for students or a second system for advanced users.
The One runs an Intel Atom processor, XP Home, 1GB of RAM, 120GB HDD, and a three-cell battery. Users wanting a Linux version can get the same specs with Linpus Linux Lite for $329. A version of the One with a 6-cell battery, 160GB HDD, and Windows XP home is $399. All versions use an 8.9-inch LCD screen.
"The Aspire one is a breakthrough product that meets the connectivity needs of both students and mobile professionals," said Kristin Markworth, senior manager of notebook product marketing for Acer America. "By increasing the value of our mobile Internet device lineup, Acer is opening the Aspire one experience to a whole new base of users."
