Sony and the US Product Safety Commission have announced that certain Sony VAIO TZ-series notebook computers have been recalled. Sony says that the recall covers about 73,000 computers. The recall was issued due to burn hazard.
The source of the problem is irregularly positioned wires near the computer's hinge and a dislodged screw inside the hinge can cause a short circuit and overheating. Sony says that it has received 15 reports of overheating and that one customer has suffered a minor burn.
Systems covered in the recall include the VGN-TZ100, VGN-TZ200, VGN-TZ300, and VGN-TZ2000 systems. Sony says not all units in these series' are affected and to call to see if yours in one of them. The systems were sold via the SonyStyle store and website from July 2007 until August 2008.
