Camcorders have become smaller and smaller as the years have gone by and with the advent of HDTV, camcorders are now also going HD. It used to be that you had to go and buy tapes to be able to record your home videos, but today the vast majority of camcorders use some type of digital storage medium like flash memory or internal hard drives.

Canon recently announced a new line of camcorders including the VIXA HF11. The cool part about this camcorder is that you don’t have to settle on just one storage method for your videos. An internal hard drive is good, but once it is full you are done shooting until you can get to a computer to download the video. A camera that saves to SD cards is also good, but sometimes you can forget to bring memory cards along.

This is where the HF11 is so interesting; it offers a 32GB internal flash drive for storage of up to 12 hours of HD video. Once that fills up you can keep recording by slipping SD cards into the camera. This allows for continuous recording. The camera also features a 2.7-inch LCD and has a 12x optical zoom lens. The VIXA HF11 retails for $1199.

For Whom:

The HF11 is perfect for anyone looking to record life's important events -- like school plays, birthdays, and holidays -- on a camera that offer tons of storage in multiple formats.

The Good:

  • Records to both an internal hard drive and SD/SDHC cards
  • Records in HD resolution

The Bad:
