According to ABI Research holiday shopping and the CES, show in January will give a good indication of the short-term prospects for wireless HDTV systems in consumer electronics. Wireless HD systems are intended to cut the wires required to send HD signals from components to the TV.
There are three technologies in contention right now including 5 GHz, 60GHz, and UWB. The 5 GHz technology seems to be in the early lead with several big names in the TV market throwing in like Sharp and Sony.
I think the technology will really catch on when it comes built-into the TV so you don’t need to buy external devices. If wireless HD connectivity can provide an unlimited number of HD device input, it will also help the equipment catch on.
