GameStop CEO Dan DeMatteo sees no near-term end for Wii shortage in the United States. Nintendo sold 448,000 Wii consoles in the U.S. last month, but the demand is still so high that the Wii is hard to find. I reported about Walmart selling the Wii online for the standard price of $249 a week ago. The offer was actually available for several hours, which was surprising. Of course it is now long gone.
Nintendo has apparently ramped up Wii production by 20%, but Gamestop's CEO says that this is not helping.
Gamestop offers a Wii bundle priced at $349.99 that ships on September 19th currently.
It really is a strange world when it comes to the Wii stock situation. I was on vacation in Austria and I saw the Wii console and the Wii Fit in stock at a normal supermarket next to the veggies.
One guess about the Wii shortage in the U.S. has been the weak Dollar. Now that the Dollar has come back quite a bit, maybe things change.
