I don’t think anyone will argue that in the litany of applications available on the iTunes App Store for the iPhone, there are some particularly odd things to be found. A new oddity is from Smule and it is called the Sonic Lighter. The application sells for $0.99 and is designed to take advantage of everything the iPhone can do.
The application puts the striker wheel and flame from an old school lighter on the screen and then allows users to manipulate the flame with multi-touch and tilt input. The application uses something called Sonic Modem taking advantage of the iPhone mic and speaker to light nearby Sonic Lighters. The speaker can also be used to blow out the flame.
"I personally don't believe that it's really an iPhone -- it looks, sounds, and feels like an actual flame to me," said Dr. Ge Wang, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer for Smule. "I've found the flame map to be quite useful, especially at night."
