Qimonda says that its DDR3 RAM has been validated for the upcoming, high-end Intel Core i7 CPU and X58 chipset. The RAM validated was the DDR3 1067 non-ECC UDIMMs. Qimonda says that the DDR3 memory provides up to 30% improvement in power usage and twice the data rate of DDR2.

Intel's i7 microarchitecture has an integrated memory controller that supports up to three memory modules per channel for improved bandwidth. The RAM operates at 1.5V to save power.

“We’ve worked closely with Intel to validate DDR3 modules for application in Core™ architecture systems across the full range of supported platforms,” said Michael Buckermann, Vice President of Business Unit Computing, Qimonda AG. “We are very pleased to be able to offer these solutions as part of the industry’s broadest portfolio of DDR3 DIMMs from 800 to 1866 speed grades.”
