Toshiba has launched new SSDs using MLC technology in capacities of 250GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB. The smaller size SSDs are aimed at netbook computers. Mass production of the drives is expected in Q4 2008.
The 256GB SSD uses a 2.5-inch form factor and MLC technology that allows for faster read/write speeds. The read speed is up to 120Mbps and the write speed it a max of 70Mbps. Interface used on the device is SATA 3.0Gbps.
The smaller capacity flash drives for netbooks have read speeds of 80Mbps and write speeds of 50Mbps. The netbook SSDs also use the SATA interface and will find their way into other types of devices besides netbooks.
