Nokia finally unveiled their first touch-screen mobile phone with the new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.
The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic will be among the first devices to support Nokia's Comes With Music service that gives users one year of unlimited access to the entire Nokia Music Store catalogue.
The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic features a 3.2 inch touchscreen display with 640x360px resolution and introduces the new Nokia Bar user interface concept. The Media bar for instance is a drop down menu that provides direct access to music and entertainment, including favorite tracks, videos and photos. The Media Bar also offers a direct link to the web and to online sharing.
The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic features a 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, GPS, S60 OS, speaker and 3.5mm jack.
The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is rather thick. Overall the first Nokia touch-screen phone is not up to compete with the iPhone. Nokia is also not trying to do that. It is a mainstream music phone with a touchscreen that will appeal to some if the carrier pricing for the phone is low enough.
The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic will be available worldwide beginning in the fourth quarter of 2008 for an estimated retail price of 279 EUR (~$385) before taxes and subsidies. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic featuring Comes With Music will be available early next year.
