Sony has announced its 3rd generation digital book reader called the PRS-700. The Sony PRS-700 weighs about ten ounces and is the size of a thin paperback book. The display used on the new PRS-700 reader is a 6-inch unit that offers touch screen capability.

Touch screen capability allows readers to flip pages by sliding a finger across the screen. Readers can also use touch to create search terms within a book and create bookmarks or notes. The book has five pre-set text sizes for comfortable reading and zooming is supported with a finger tap.

The display of the PRS-700 uses high-resolution electronic paper technology. The display also features a built-in LED reading light for dark environments. Optional removable storage via Memory Stick Duo or SD cards is supported. The new Sony PRS-700 digital reader will be available in November for $399.99.
