PriceGrabber.com surveyed 1,915 customers on their plans to move from standard TVs to HDTVs. Despite the poor economy in the US 73% of customers surveyed said they plan to upgrade to a HDTV within the year.
57% of its customers own an HDTV today and in 2006 only 30% owned a HDTV. LCD is the most popular HDTV technology with 57% of HDTV owners opting for LCD technology. Average selling price for HDTVs has dropped 27% over the last two years according to PriceGrabber. Shoppers report that improved picture quality is the number one reason they buy HDTVs not lower prices.
The move to digital broadcasts early next year is no doubt spurring the HDTV buying trend. Many retail outlets are still providing consumers with incorrect information leading many consumers to believe that they need a new TV rather than a simple converter box.
