German Porsche Tuner Ruf introduces a full electric Porsche dubbed eRuf. The Porsche eRuf uses a 150KW electric motor accelerating the Porsche from 0-60mph in 7 seconds.
Powered by 96 Axeon iron-phosphate, lithium-ion batteries the range of the eRuf is 160-200 miles depending on how much Porsche feeling you want.
Ruf partnered with CALMOTORS in Camarillo, California for the battery system.
The eRuf is just a concept car for now and just shows, yes you can put an electric motor inside a car. In reality it is just a marketing stunt as it does not make sense to power a 2 ton car with an electric motor today. The batteries just do not provide the range necessary with a reasonable charge time. More details on AutoBlog.
The Tesla Motors Roadster has been designed from the ground up to be an electric car. Thats why it weighs just about 1 ton and the acceleration from 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds, which makes the eRuf Porsche look like it is standing still.
BMW will do the same PR stunt with their upcoming Electric Minis.
