Yesterday Apple announced its new MacBook computers and one of the biggest changes was the ousting of Intel's integrated graphics and NVIDIA taking over with its new GeForce 9400M GPU. NVIDIA has released more details on the GPU and promises a five times increase in performance compared to integrated graphics.
The 9400M has 16 parallel processing cores and can deliver 54 GFLOPs of processing power to make it the most integrated GPU on the market according to NVIDIA. In addition to 5x the power of Intel's Centrino technology for graphics, NVIDIA also says that the GPU uses less power enabling users to watch a complete HD movie on a single charge.
Intel says that it will work hard to grab the graphics business back from NVIDIA. However, before Intel can do that it will need to get a GPU with graphics muscle ready and that isn’t likely to happen until Larrabee hits market.
