TapRoot Systems announced that its WalkingHotSpot connectivity solution for smartphones is available for direct purchase. The software makes Windows Mobile 6 and S60 3G, Wi-Fi smartphones into walking hot spots. On Windows Mobile Wi-fi sharing is possible with some tweaking. Wi-fi sharing on the iPhone 3G would be a real hot selling app, but I guess Apple and the carriers have something against that.

The service allows users to connect securely for email and web surfing. The application can be purchased for a one time fee of $24.99 for the lifetime of the phone. A monthly service is available for $24.99. Users can get a free 7-day trial.

"WalkingHotSpot was launched as a beta-trial earlier this year, and Europe has proven to be one of our top markets," comments Bob Bicksler, CEO of TapRoot Systems. "Combining the proliferation of smartphones in Europe with the mature 3G infrastructure makes a strong user scenario for WalkingHotSpot. We see Europe as a significant market for this application. With WalkingHotSpot, users can feel confident they have a reliable, secure, inexpensive, and readily-available internet connection wherever and whenever they need it," Bicksler continues.
