One of the coolest features of the coming Intel Core i7, X58 platform is that it supports triple channel memory. The catch is that the memory voltage the new system will handle are significantly lower than previous systems. This means that enthusiasts will likely need new RAM for the platform.
Kingston has announced its first triple channel HyperX DDR3 kit for the platform. The kit promises speeds of 2GHz at only 1.65V, the max for the platform. The RAM comes in kits including three 1GB DIMMS. Also available are 1866MHz, 1800MHz, and low latency 1600MHz and 1375MHz kits. The high-end kit costs $334 with the low-end value triple channel kits going for $132.
"Kingston is excited to bring the fastest DDR3 triple channel memory products to market as we are the first to deliver 2000MHz gaming kits of three with Intel's reduced voltage," said Mark Tekunoff, senior technology manager, Kingston(R). "All of our triple-channel kits can be overclocked manually or by using XMP-ready profiles. The 2GHz modules have been tested to support up to that speed on ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboards while the Intel DX58SO motherboards have been tested up to 1600MHz."
