Best Buy has announced that it has qualified its complete line of Insignia LCD TVs for the Energy Star 3.0 specification. All sets manufactured after November 1, 2008 will meet the requirements for the specification. Six of the TVs exceed the new specification by 15% or more.
Best Buy says that the certification of its TVs is a response to customers wanting more energy efficient electronic devices. Best Buy says that it worked with its TV manufacturers to make the sets 30% more efficient than competing products. All Insignia TVs available at Best Buy stores across the US will be Energy Star 3.0 rated by December 31, 2008.
Best Buy says the on mode for LCD TVs consumes 80 to 90% of the energy usage the set needs. The new insignia TVs will reduce that power usage without sacrificing performance. The new certification addresses power usage when active and when in standby mode.
