One of the best features of the Amazon Kindle is the low power E-paper display it uses. One of the biggest drawbacks to the Kindle is also the display, which lacks a backlight. To read in the dark you need a light of some sort. A new product makes reading with the Kindle at night an easier task.
The device is called the Periscope Lighted Folio. The device will be available next month for $49.95 and is an all in one unit with a twin LED reading light, deluxe cover, and a notebook/pen holder. The equipment is housed in a black leatherette folio. Power is from three AA batteries and an AC adapter is available separately.
The notepad built into the folio is 5" x 8" and the batteries are promised to last 40 hours. When the light isn't needed, it retracts into the folio cover. The weight of the folio and light isn’t mentioned, nor is how much bulk it adds to the small Kindle reader.
