The NY Times runs a story about Barack Obama most likely having to give up using his BlackBerry phone when he becomes President in January 2009.
Barack Obama is known of heavy BlackBerry use involving emails and documents.
Besides security the much bigger problem is the Presidential Records Act, which would put each email into the official record and ultimately for public access and risk of subpoenas.
Maybe Barack Obama should look into advice from the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is also known as SMS Chancellor into how to realign the laws to continue using mobile email.
Another interesting piece in this NY Times story is that Barack Obama might be the first US President to have a Notebook on his desk in the oval office. He might not be able to use it for email though.

This also means Barack Obama misses out on the new BlackBerry Bold and the BlackBerry Storm - tough luck to become US President.
