According to a new study, Google Docs has been unable to gain any traction in a market dominated by Microsoft Office. The use of free document services like Docs and OpenOffice remains very low. The study shows that Office is in use by over 50% of adult Internet users in the US.
Of all the free productivity applications offered OpenOffice is the most popular with 5% of use by Internet users. The application also has the heaviest and highest frequency of use among the free applications with 548 clicks performed and 8.7 days of use per user.
Google Docs was the second most popular free productivity application in use by 1% of users. Google Docs also had the lightest use of the free applications with an average of 40 actions in the app and the fewest days of use in a six-month period.
