How long did that take? Porsche finally jumps across their shadow and announces a Diesel version of its Cayenne SUV. Starting February 2009, the Porsche will offer a Cayenne with a diesel engine.
The advantage of a Diesel engine is that uses way less gas. Especially the deviation from the average consumption is not as high as with gasoline and you get a lot of torque.
The Diesel Porsche Cayenne will come with a three-liter V6 turbo diesel engine with 240 hp (176 kW) supplied by Audi AG, a subsidiary of the VW Group. The average consumption of the Cayenne Diesel is 9.3 liters per 100 kilometers (~25mpg), with CO2 at 244g/km.
The BMW X6 has been launched with Diesel engine options and the top Diesel version is offering 210 kW (286hp). For Porsche it is a bit disappointing to not offer a stronger Diesel Engine.
The new Cayenne with diesel drive will be available from dealers from February 2009 onwards. Equipped with the proven Tiptronic-S automatic gearbox as standard, the Euro base price will be EUR 47,250 (~$60,000).
In Germany, the Cayenne with diesel engine including 19 percent VAT and country-specific equipment costs EUR 56,436.
