Walmart will be selling the cheapest Blu-ray player to date starting Black Friday with the Magnavox Blu-ray Player priced at a very low $128.
The price is great, but is the Magnavox Blu-ray Player any good? Let's have a look at the features and specifications of the bargain Blu-ray player.
Features of the Magnavox NB500MG9 Blu-ray player include Full-HD 1080 output (24 or 60p), 1080p DVD upconversion, Composite video output
Component video output, Progressive scan video output for HDTVs, HDMI with audio output for Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound, Digital audio output (coaxial), Analog audio output (left and right), CD support, jpeg photo viewer, screen saver and surround sound effects.
The Magnavox NB500MG9 Blu-ray player only supports Blu-ray profile 1.1 and not the current Blu-ray 2.0 version. So you are not getting BD-Live support that more and more new Blu-ray discs have enabled to give you access to more content via the net.
The normal price point for the Magnavox NB500MG9 on other stores and on Walmart before is at $200. The Magnavox Blu-ray player is actually the Funai NB500.
The $128 Magnavox NB500MG9 is a great choice if you want to enter the Blu-ray era and do not require the latest Blu-ray features as you just want to watch movies. The upscaling DVD feature is also a nice value add. This way you can enjoy also a bit better quality watching DVDs on your full HD HDTV. I say the Magnavox Blu-ray player is worth the $128. Good luck getting one.
If you are looking though for a solid quality component for your exquisite home theater setup, you should rather look into spending a bit more to get also the full audio quality that Blu-ray offers.

Walmart has several very hot HDTV deals on Black Friday that should guarantee some long lines in the early mornings. More details about the Walmart Black Friday 2008 Deals.
