Toshiba has announced the pending release of a new 16GB microSDHC card. The card will be the highest capacity microSDHC card on the market. The company also announced new ultra fast read/write 8GB and 16GB SDHC cards.
The 16GB microSDHC card will ship in January of 2009. This card will be a speed class 2, which is slow. In April of 2009, a much faster speed class 6 16GB SDHC card will be introduced along with an 8GB card in the same speed class. Pricing for the memory cards is unknown at this time.
It is very impressive that Toshiba is able to smash 16GB of storage into a tiny microSDHC card about the size of a thumbnail. You can count on the card being expensive at launch with the price likely running well into the hundreds of dollars.
