When we shop for mobile phones, we all expect the carrier to subsidize the cost of handsets in exchange for forcing us to stay with them for two years. If you want a mobile internet modem, you will have to agree to the same 2-year contract as well.
According to the gang over at Engadget the Acer One netbook is coming to the US with a subsidized price and AT&T 3G Internet access. Of all places, the system is rumored to be available from Radio Shack. According to what appears to be a scanned paper ad from a sales flyer the Acer One will retail for $99.99 with a two-year contract and a mobile Internet plan of $60 per month.
The little netbook itself is the standard Acer One with an Intel Atom processor, Windows XP Home, 1GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, Wi-Fi and the aforementioned 3G Internet access. If you don't want the internet access, the price at Radio Shack is $499.99. The ad claims the netbook will be available starting on 12/14 through 12/20.
