The FCC outlined a plan this year that would auction off a portion of wireless spectrum that would include the stipulation that a portion of that spectrum be used to provide free nationwide wireless Internet access to Americans. The FCC's plan was based in part on a recommendation from M2Z Networks.

The Bush Administration opposes the idea of free broadband and sent a letter to the FCC to voice its opposition for the plan. M2Z networks responded today to the letter sent from the Bush Administration to the FCC calling on the FCC to move forward on the planned vote set for December 18th to determine the fate of free nationwide Internet.

M2Z networks plans to bid on the spectrum if the FCC decides to put it up for auction. With Bush in his lame duck period, M2Z points out that Obama hasn’t said if he agrees with the AWS-3 auction rules, but M2Z points out that Obama has pledged 100% broadband availability across the country. The FCC hasn’t yet announced if the vote will move forward with the free Internet stipulation.
