The iPhone Dev Team announced on their blog that they finally managed to unlock the iPhone 3G. The team is now working on the user friendly wrapping of the unlock code and plans to publish it on New Year's Eve.
This first iPhone 3G unlock is only available to iPhone 3G handsets that have 2.11.07 baseband or earlier. So if you have upgraded to the recent updates you are not going to be able to unlock your iPhone 3G.
The unlock also requires that your iPhone 3G is already jailbroken.
The team also says that they will talk at the 25th Chaos Communication Congress (info) in Berlin on December 27-30th.
More details on the iPhone Dev Team site.
