After the departure of Apple from Macworld Expo, the future of the Apple centric show is questionable. According to MacRumors CES has been approaching exhibitors at the Macworld to convince them to exhibit at CES 2010. CES would organize a Mac only area.
The Macworld Expo makers had a meeting to discuss the future of the show and are trying to leverage the community aspect of the show into a new MacWorld without Apple. More details on that meeting can be found on Arstechnica.
The force with the Apple community is strong, very strong. It definitely makes sense to leverage it and create a yearly happening in SF for Apple believers, even if their holly priest is not present. It will not be easy though, as this little Twitter survey of Macworld opinions shows.
Just make sure the Macworld 2010 does not overlap with CES 2010 if you want any coverage at all. I personally did not see any Macworld announcements after Apple finished their not so exciting keynote. The CES announcements have been pouring through a very big fire hose since the beginning of the week, washing the few Macworld announcements away.
