Newsflash, the economy is not just bad here in the US but abroad as well. In the first month of 2009, we have already been hit from many sides with news that the economy is bad. If you needed any further proof, IDC has released its PC market findings for Q4 of 2008.

Worldwide PC shipments were down 0.4% on the year for the first time in about six years. The industry declined 2.5% from the previous quarter in 2008. Shipments of netbooks accounted for nearly 7% of the total notebooks shipped and shipments of netbooks are expected to double in 2009.

The top vendor in worldwide PC shipments was HP with 15,190,000 units shipped. Dell took second spot with 10,616,000 units shipped and Acer held the third spot with 9,112,000 units shipped. Rounding out the top five were Lenovo and Toshiba. In the US Dell was the top vendor, HP was second, then Acer, Apple, and Toshiba.
