Gartner Confirms PC Industry is Hard Hit

IDC released its figures for PC shipments in Q4 2008 today as did Gartner. Gartner reports very similar findings to IDC with the PC industry posting its worst growth rate since 2002. The total number of PCs shipped for Q4 2008 was 78.1 million units, an increase of only 1.1% compared to Q4 2007.
Again, the biggest growth segment in the computer industry for the quarter was netbooks. The top vendor globally was HP followed by Dell, Acer, Lenovo, and Toshiba. HP shipped 14,915,400 computers according to Gartner.
Dell shipped 10,319,700 computers, Acer shipped 9,637,300 units, Lenovo shipped 5,549,200 units, and Toshiba shipped 3,654,900 units. The top vendors in the US market in order were Dell, HP, Acer, Apple, and Toshiba.
