iPod and Mac Sales seen up before Apple Earnings Call

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster estimates that Mac Sales have risen 4% compared to a year ago. Apple is announcing their quarterly earnings this afternoon.
Based on NDP data and Mr. Munster's estimates Apple is seen to have sold 2.45 to 2.55 million Mac computers.
iPod sales are estimated to have done really well in the Holiday shopping quarter. The estimated number is between 19 and 20 million iPods. This would mean about a 10% growth over last year. More details on the predicted Apple sales numbers can be found on Apple Insider.
The iPod sales increase comes to no surprise as Apple's competitors in the portable music player segment just did not deliver this past Holiday. Sony was a complete no show as was Sandisk. Microsoft had no new Zune players for the Holidays either. They left it all to Apple. Maybe they thought nobody would be buying portable music players anymore. Now with the dropped iTunes DRM, the arguments against an iPod are getting even fewer.
