The GeoEye-1 Earth imaging satellite was used yesterday to capture images of President Obama's inauguration from space. The image above was shot from 423 miles in space and is the world's highest resolution color image of the inaugural celebration taken from space.

The image was taken through high wispy clouds that covered Washington D.C. and clearly shows the national monuments and clusters of people around the large screens viewing the inauguration proceedings.

The image was taken as the satellite moved north to south over the US at about 17,000 mph, or about four miles per second. This image really makes me wonder what the really powerful spy satellites can take pictures of. I am betting the photos they take can identify the dude Oprah was leaning on easily.
