AT&T is offering lots of details on its first 3G MicroCell. The device is basically a tiny cellular tower that helps users improve their cellular reception in the home or office. The MicroCell connects to the AT&T network via a broadband Internet connection and can support 10 3G capable wireless phones at once.
Up to four of those users can surf the web from their handset at the same time. The device offers up to 5,000 square feet of coverage and is available with unlimited minute plans and individual or family plans. AT&T says that the device is secure and can't be accessed by unauthorized users.
When you leave the range of the MicroTower the handset will automatically switch back over to the AT&T network. AT&T does omit a few key bits of information on the MicroTower, namely it fails to mention price and availability. I would bet the thing will cost in the area of $300 and I would be surprised if it doesn’t carry a monthly fee to use as well.
