T-Mobile and Meru Networks have teamed up to offer T-Mobile customers a new service that automatically and seamlessly switches mobile callers from the T-Mobile network to a Wi-Fi network while on a phone call.
T-Mobile has completed interoperability testing of UMS-equipped T-Mobile devices with Meru enterprise WLANS. The two firms will also market and sale the service together as well. Using the technology when T-Mobile customer moves in the range of a network calls placed no longer take mobile plan minutes.
This sounds just like any other femtocell service to me. I mentioned yesterday that AT&T had a new femtocell that does the same thing. It seems the only real difference here is that the T-Mobile service is aimed at enterprise users.
