Rockstar has announced that the official world championship series for Midnight club: LA has started. The series is hosted on the Rockstar Games Social Club area and will take place monthly throughout 2009.

Prizes will be awarded and will include gift certificates from Rockstar Games and grand prizes like a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle and a free year of pizza from Pizza Hut. From today until February 6th, players on both the Xbox and PS3 can compete and sign up for the tournament.

Worldwide time trials will be followed by head-to-head races to determine the grand prize winner. The winner of the tournament will be crowned on February 13th. The grand prize of the first tournament will be a $500 Rockstar shopping spree.
