Google has introduced a new location based service called Latitude that allows friends to track the location of each other. The application currently works on the G1, Blackberry, and most Windows Mobile Devices.

The search giant says that versions of the application for the iPod touch and the iPhone will be coming along with a version for Sony Ericsson phones. The application is opt in only meaning that only those you allow to see your location can find you.

Location information is received via GPS, Wi-Fi, or tower triangulation. Users can offer more information about where they are and can upload pictures. Latitude doesn’t interface with MySpace or Facebook. The WSJ notes that the location information isn't very accurate, but most GPS devices aren't.
