French portable media player maker Archos announced that they would be adopting Google's OS Android for a new Internet Media Tablet (IMT).
Archos melds the Google Android telephony stack and the ARCHOS multimedia framework for a new very capable platform. This new IMT will also incorporate the OMAP 3 hardware from Texas Instruments.
Features of the upcoming Android Archos IMT include 5 inch screen, full screen web browsing, Adobe Flash and Flash Video support, TV recording, up to 500GB HDD, 7 hour battery life, and 3.5G HSUPA connectivity.
Archos promises Laptop-like performance provided by the TI OMAP3440 CPU based on the ARM(R) Cortex superscalar microprocessor and DSP.
Maybe Archos will exhibit the new Android Archos device at the MWC 2009 next week. The 10mm thin Internet Tablet with voice functionality is slated for a (yawn!) Q3 release.
