Overall the video game sales rose 13% in January compared to last year which is great news amidst the recession we are in. Most of the growth is attributed to Nintendo though. As reported Nintendo sold 640,000 Wii and 510,000 DS in January.
According to NPD Group sales data the Microsoft Xbox 360 sold 309,000 units and the Sony PS3 sold only 203,000 units in January.
Even when you combine the Xbox 360 and PS3 sales they still do not amount to the the number of Wii sold in the US.
Microsoft offers now with the Xbox 360 Arcade the lowest priced current generation console, but it still cannot break the Wii success.
We do not have to talk about the Sony PS3 until Sony has come up with some new ideas on taking the PS3 out of its misery. Looks like the upcoming Killzone 2 game has at least sold some PS3 consoles. Still to be in the 3rd place is very disappointing for the once dominating video game company.
