Sony Ericsson unveiled the Idou media smartphone at the MWC 2009. Idou is a concept name for this phone and not the final name under which the Sony Ericsson is going to market it.
The Idou is supposed to give consumers best in class entertainment experiences in a single device, broadening entertainment experiences and fusing communication with entertainment.
Sony Ericsson offers up in the Idou a 16:9 high resolution touchscreen and a 12.1MP camera. More technical details are not available.
Idou will be available 2nd Half of 2009 says Sony Ericsson.
To show a concept phone like that is dangerous. It looks a bit like a desperate move by Sony Ericsson to dazzle consumers since the current offering of handsets no longer does and the company is having economic troubles.
Sony Ericsson exhibits the Idou at the MWC 2009 under a glass cage and an animation of a UI is running on it as you can see in this Engadget video report. If the Idou would ship today it would be interesting, but who knows what the market is going to look like at the end of the year. The smartphone market might just be a battle between the Apple iPhone, Palm Pre, BlackBerry, and HTC WinMo phones. Possibly not leaving much room for Walkman and Cyber-shot phones.
