When netbooks first hit the market, most of them featured an 8.9-inch screen. The machines were all mostly the same with the same hardware and only differed in brand name and how well the keyboard worked.
As more netbook models have hit the market, the price of the systems has started to drop as makers compete on price alone. The price of 8.9-inch netbooks with SSD storage is coming down significantly according to DigiTimes.
This is based in part on the fact that it is now very common for netbooks to come with 160GB and 80GB HDDs making the price premium for significantly smaller capacity SSD-based netbooks even less attractive to consumers. As a result, manufacturers are dropping the price of the SSD-based systems. The 8.9-inch Aspire One has dropped to $202.27 in Taiwan with the 7-inch Eee with a 20GB SSD going for around $260.
