Microsoft has been offering its Sync in-car platform for a while now and the system is pretty slick. The software giant is now talking about its latest automotive platform called Microsoft Auto software platform. Microsoft says that the program will be available to automakers and suppliers this spring.
The platform is expanded and now will work with Intel CPUs and a new worldwide partner program is being rolled out along with the new software platform. Microsoft says that a range of solutions running the new platform will be shown at CeBIT 2009.
Microsoft Auto 4.0's expanded support adds Intel CPUs in addition to still supporting ARM and SH-based processors as well. The Intel Atom Z5xx series is ideally suited for in-car use with the new platform according to Microsoft.
