RIM renamed their App Store for BlackBerry phones to BlackBerry App World. Update: BlackBerry App World launched.
Developers for BlackBerry phones can apply to App World now and submit their apps for review.
RIM dictates the pricing for BlackBerry Apps with set tiers. Developers can give away BlackBerry Apps on BlackBerry App World for free or start at $2.99.
So the essential BerryFart app for the BlackBerry would cost you at least 3 bucks, where as on the iTunes store iPhone developers can just charge 1 buck for it.
Developers have to pay $200 to sign-up for App World and that allows them to upload 10 BlackBerry Apps. RIM only takes a 20% revenue share compared to the 30% Apple takes from app sales revenue. It is still to be seen if the BlackBerry App World will be as crazy successful as the iPhone App Store.
Developers can visit the BlackBerry App World Developer portal for more information. BlackBerry users can register on the App World site to get notified when the store opens.
