Around the world, many baseball fans collect baseball cards and some famous players have cards that are worth big money. Topps, one of the biggest names in baseball cards has announced a new high-tech card that offers a cool feature.
When you take the cards and hold them in front of a webcam a 3D avatar of the player on the card will appear on the computer. To add even more of a cool factor as you rotate the card the avatar moves with the card so you can get a 360-degree view of your favorite player.
The tech behind the cards is from a firm called Total Immersion. The tech also allows cardholders to play basic games with the avatars like pitching, batting, and catching games using the keyboard. Topps says that it will ship about 10 million packs of these Series 1 cards this year with 12 of the cards going for $2. This tech could do wonders for other things as well; my son would be all over a set of cards for cars that uses this tech and lets you play games with the 3D avatar.
