Samsung has announced that it is the first memory maker to ship advanced 16GB DDR3 modules based on 2Gb, 50nm DDR3. The company says that it is shipping 18 different configurations of the DDR3 modules designed for servers including a 16GB RIMM module and an 8GB RDIMM.

Samsung says that the high-density modules operate at 1066Mbps allowing 192GB of memory density for a 2 CPU socket server. The company also says that it is the first to offer 16GB RDIMMS that operate at 1.35 volts providing a 20% power savings compared to 1.5V DDR3 modules.

The 16GB RDIMM modules also feature a dual-die package that is more efficient in cost and performance compared to the quad-die configuration RAM typically uses. Samsung says that its 2Gb DDR3 consumes 40% less power than 1Gb configurations.
