I am getting more and more interested in finding solutions to make my house independent from energy suppliers. If you live in Europe you remember that just a short while ago Russia once again just shut off the gas supply for days.
In my on and off research into solutions I stumbled over a company based in Liechtenstein called Pure Wind Energy. They are about to ship their very cool looking home wind turbine Windcore.
The WindCore turbine is just mounted on the roof of your house and can generate 2.000 kWh of electricity per year at an average wind speed of 5m/s. WindCore starts to run at winds only 3m/s.
The WindCore home wind turbine has a diameter of 1.5m, which is a size that most likely requires permission from the local bureaucrats to mount that baby on your roof.
WindCore is fully microprocessor controlled and is monitored via GSM network. Noise is a factor with wind turbines. The WindCore generates 35 db at night and 50 db during the day.
The first units are deployed in May and are supposed to sell for around $5k.
