Airvana Labs has demonstrated a new CDMA femtocell called the HubBub CDMA femtocell that offers a five times data speed increase. The device provides significant improvements in indoor 3G coverage compared to using the cellular network alone.
The company says that the typical mobile broadband user can see broadband data rates of about five times as fast as the normal broadband speed on the mobile network alone with peak EVDO data rates of up to 3.1Mbps.
Speeds of over 2Mbps are said to be available on average in all parts of a home. The company says that femtocells often focus on improving voice calling coverage inside the home, but studies show that more people use data services inside the home than voice.
