NASA and Microsoft have announced that the two firms plan to offer planetary images and data available online via the Space Act Agreement. The project will have NASA and Microsoft jointly developing the technology and infrastructure needed to make the most interesting NASA content including images and data from Mars and the moon available.

The images and data will be offered via Microsoft's World Wide Telescope. Among the available images will be those taken by the NASA Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter when they are publically released this fall.

The agreement will see enough data coming from NASA to fill 20,000 DVDs, over 100 terabytes. Images from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter will also be included among the images and data.
