Sony today announced that PlayStation 2 will be available starting April 1st for $99.99 (MSRP).
We reported earlier today about the new PS2 price leaking on a Target ad. The rumored big PS3 news for today is just a rather unexciting PS2 news.
Since launching in 2000, PlayStation 2 has sold more than 136
million sell-in units worldwide, making it the most popular gaming console in industry history.
The PS2 console's vast library of games from all genres for all types of audiences will grow to
nearly 1,900 titles this year.
Sony's CEO Jack Trenton takes the PS2 as example of the 10-year product lifecycle Sony always talks about. He said what the PS2 did with the DVD, the PS3 will do with the Blu-ray disc. I do not think it will work this time around. The internet and streaming video will cut the life of Blu-ray short.
