In celebration of the Atom processor’s one-year birthday, Intel finally showed off the first live demo of long-awaited “Moorestown” mobile platform at the Beijing Intel Developer Forum.

In a demonstration, Intel showcased the Moorestown’s main technology: 10x less idle power drain compared to earlier Atom mobile internet devices (MID).

No photos or videos were made available from the event, but rumors had long been swirling of what a Moorestown-enabled device would look like, fueled by an ultra-sleek concept MID resembling an iPhone first shown in 2007.

Intel promises big things from the Moorestown platform, including a more "PC like experience," according to the release.

Intel also furthered their commitment to MIDs by introducing two new processors, the Z550 and the Z515.

The Z550 runs at an impressive 2GHz, which Intel claims sets the new standard for low-power processors. The Z515 utilizes Intel Burst Performance Technology to clock in at 1.2 GHz.
