In a new series we take a closer look at popular mobile phones available in the US market. The LG VX5500 available from Verizon Wireless is a straight forward flip phone that is gets you $75 when you sign-up for a new Verizon contract via LetsTalk.
If you want a phone with an array of basic features, look no further than the LG VX5500. The LG VX5500 is the newest version of one of the best-selling Verizon Wireless phones - the LG VX5400.
With all of the things that made the LG VX5400 so popular - GPS, Bluetooth, VGA-quality camera, advanced voice dialing, and TXT+PIX messaging - the refreshed LG VX5500 is smaller, lighter, and offers an improved main display panel with brilliant colors. In an even smaller package than the earlier model LG VX5400, the LG VX5500 still offers VZ Navigator turn-by-turn directions as well as VZ Parent-child Locator Services.

The LG VX5500 has dual LCDs, with an internal 1.75-inch screen (176 x 220 pixels, 262K colors) complemented with an external 1-inch screen (96 x 64 pixels, 65K colors) that displays incoming calls as well as battery life, signal strength, and current time and date. The phone has a 44 MB internal memory. The internal phonebook can store up to 1,000 contact entries, with each entry able to store up to 5 numbers, 2 email addresses, and a picture ID. One can also enter up to 3 emergency contacts.

The Integrated speakerphone makes handsfree communication easier. This phone also provides Bluetooth wireless connectivity (version 2.0). The VGA camera shoots only still photos, and offers three resolution options (640 x 480, 320 x 240, and 160 x 120 pixels). It has SMS, text messaging helping one to stay connected with their friends and families even on the go. In addition, the cell phone features a built-in still camera, MMS, web browsing and downloads.

LG VX5500 provides stylish, compact design with a large, easy-to-use keypad, built-in VGA camera with 2X Zoom, self-Timer, Image Editor to Zoom, Rotate, Crop, Resize and add Fun Frames, and customizable Brightness, White Balance, Shutter Sound, Color Effects, Night Mode and Photometry are all the features that makes it stunning and absolutely perfect for the user. One-Touch Speaker phone with Speaker-Independent Voice Commands to access Call, Send Message, Go To, Check, Contacts, My Verizon, Voice Recorder, and up to an hour (standby) and 5 minutes (during a call) are other desirable aspects of this handset.

The LG VX5500 is a basic and affordable camera phone with decent performance. However in our opinion, one major drawback is the memory storage. Nowadays, the mobile world is buzzing with the new 3G mobile devices. However there is an existing customer group that still wants basic mobile phones with few extra features, like camera and Bluetooth. The LG VX5500 is not among the advanced mobile by any means but it is a good offering if you are looking for basic features with decent performance.
