The gang over at Laptop Magazine was able to get an early review sample of the HP Pavilion DV2 notebook that I talked about this week. Laptop put the little notebook through its paces and came away saying it simply wasn't up to snuff.
Laptop says that the DV2 may well have been AMD's one and only chance at getting a major computer maker to adopt its new Neo CPU, and on two of the biggest claims the CPU fell flat. The machine performed well in benchmarks reports Laptop, but battery life was not good among other things.
The Neo processor was supposed to provide better battery life and cooler running in the ultra-portable category. Laptop says that the average runtime in the class is over five hours and the DV2 could only muster 2.5 hours. They place some of the blame at the feet of the ATI discrete video card. The machine also ran hotter than most machines in the category. That is certainly not, what AMD wanted to hear about one of its key processors.
