Laptop Mag had a nice sit down with Acer president and CEO Gianfranco Lanci after spending some time fiddling with the new Acer notebook and netbook at a press event. Lanci talked about smartphones, NVIDIA Ion, subsidized netbooks, CULV, and other things.

Key points from the talk with Lanci were that Acer is capable of making a notebook that can last more than one day on a charge. The obvious question after a statement like that is why they aren't making it if they can.

Lanci says that phone makers like Nokia considering entry into the netbook market are going to lose money. They likely will unless they innovate, I still say innovation in the netbook segment won’t come from the major computer makers; they still really don’t want to sell netbooks. Lanci also says that NVIDIA's Ion doesn't make sense for netbooks. He may be right, the platform is said to add too much cost to the tiny machines and we are seeing it used in nettops now rather than netbooks.
